George Makapatama

George is a proud New Zealander of Niuean descent. He migrated to New Zealand in the 1980s with his grandparents and sisters in search of education and new opportunities.

Current role:

“I am the Healthy Families South Auckland Manager. I am truly blessed to be serving alongside dedicated, talented and intrinsically motivated colleagues and community leaders who are dedicated to improving people’s health where they live, learn, work and play.”

Why do you work for Healthy Families South Auckland?

“In addition to what the CMDHB, health providers and social services agencies are currently delivering to improve the health of people and communities living in South Auckland, Healthy Families’ role in this complex and adaptive environment is to take a systems approach to the reduction of risk factors contributing to major loss of health and inequity. I see this role as a call to action and for the whole village to work as one towards addressing this adaptive issue.”

What is your vision for health and wellbeing in South Auckland?

“Healthy and resilient communities”

Who inspires you?

“My grandparents who left Niue, their home, their land to come to New Zealand to give me opportunities to serve and help people. They continue to inspire and challenge me daily to be a good servant for the people and communities I have the privilege of serving. “
