Gina Waikari

Gina was born and raised in the sunny Hawkes Bay. She is of Te Whanau a Apanui, Ngati Porou and Tuhoe descent.

What led you to working at Healthy Families South Auckland?

“I worked in Otahuhu as a community marketing manager while I was studying. I trained in communications and media writing and aspired to be a journalist. Working in a newsroom armed me with the resilience I needed to step into the advertising agency world. This is where I learnt skills in digital project management, digital storytelling and branded content. I knew I wanted to use my skills for something greater than commercial gain so I intentionally looked for a role that would positively contribute to a community, I’m lucky that the community I get to serve is South Auckland.”

Who inspires you and why?

My Dad, he has overcome a lot in his life, he is simply the best!

What is your current role?

Communications Advisor, my job is to look for all the stories and amplify the mahi our Systems Innovators do everyday.

What projects are you currently working on and what impact do they have on the community?

I work across all projects, dipping in and out where my skills are needed. You will find me and my team at the most unlikely places filming, interviewing and creating content that captures the heart of the mahi our Systems Innovators do in South Auckland.

What is one funny/quirky/interesting thing that no-one knows about you?

My bulldog Franklin has more followers than me.

Communciations Advisor:

"My vision for South Auckland is to see families thriving not just surviving"
