Healthy Families Manukau, Manurewa-Papakura is working with Local Boards in South Auckland to look at how greenways can strengthen local communities and improve wellbeing.
Greenways are safe routes for people to move around their community by active transport such as walking, cycling, or scootering.
“Local leaders and groups such as Mr T, Iron Maori, Big Boys and Weetbix Tri have mobilised our whānau in huge numbers”, says Anna Jacob, Co-Manager, Healthy Families Manukau, Manurewa-Papakura.
Healthy Families Manukau, Manurewa-Papakura is identifying opportunities to leverage Council’s existing infrastructure and mechanisms to support these whānau to make active transport, be it cycling, scootering, walking or any type of regular movement a part of normal daily activity.
The next step for the Healthy Families Manukau, Manurewa-Papakura workforce is gathering the views of local families and stakeholders at a neighbourhood level.
“We understand the diversity across South Auckland and will work alongside Local Boards to gather insights and frame the opportunities in ways that make sense for locals”, says Anna.
