Early Years
The first 1000 days of a child’s life lay the foundation for their future. This period, covering conception through to a child’s second birthday, is when experiences have lasting effects on the health, learning and behaviours of our tamariki,. We are co-designing a support system with South Auckland whānau, that empowers our children to reach their full wellbeing potential.
Food Systems
Kai unites us. It’s something to share and a reminder of home. Food Systems navigates people’s positive connection with food, thereby informing a sustainable and nourishing food system. Healthy Families South Auckland is committed to fulfilling our relationship with Māori, so we’re led by a mana motuhake approach to self-determining what we eat and where we source it.
Mental Health and Wellbeing
We are walking alongside our communities as they come to normalise mental health talanoa. Considering our whānau live intergenerationally, we believe in building capability for support structures around the home – be it parents, grandparents, older siblings, aunties and uncles. Rangatahi tell us that they feel at ease with leaning into family and friends, so we’re mobilising modern villages of support.
Movement and Sport
As a preventative initiative targeting chronic disease, Healthy Families South Auckland emphasises participation in sport and physical activities. Our methodology for getting South Auckland active is community centric, culturally relevant and encompasses a holistic view of health by utilising Te Whare Tapa Whā. Good physical health will ensure we are here for longer.
Oranga Whakapapa
In honouring the role of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, we work towards achieving the aspirations of Māori. The Cause Collective’s Oranga Whakapapa initiative spans the organisation, including as a Healthy Families South Auckland focus area. We actively centre indigenous knowledge, practices and values to strengthen cultural identity and improve health outcomes for whānau Māori.
