Turei is of Maori & Pakeha descent, he grew up on the East Coast of Gisborne (Ngati Porou).

What led you to working at Healthy Families South Auckland?

I’ve worked in the health sector for the past serveral years and saw the need for a new approach to making our communities healthier, both physically and mentally. 

Who inspires you and why?

My immediate and wider whanau, mainly because I know the backstories and journeys to all their achievements. 

What is your current role?

Strategic Communications Manager. I manage all external and internal communications for The Southern Initiative team that works as part of Healthy Families South Auckland.

What is one funny/quirky/interesting thing that no-one knows about you?

I’m related to Russell Crowe.
